Artist Profile: Jim Kwan

In addition to being an accomplished Jazz pianist, Jim Kwan brings a unique blend of musical genres to his vocal/piano repertoire with his own twist. His original and soulful renditions of music take you from Marvin Gaye, Al Green and Earth, Wind & Fire, to music by The Eagles, Jimi Henrix and Bob Marley. He covers songs through the 80’s like Duran Duran, Men At Work, Cyndi Lauper, right to contemporary music by John Mayer, U2, Rihanna and Coldplay. Jim Kwan is a soloist.

Where are you from?

Vancouver

 

What style of music do you play?

Vocally an eclectic mix of pop through the decades from Jimi Hendrix to Drake, and Jazz instrumental.

 

What instruments do you play?

Piano as my main instrument but I also play others.

 

How did you discover your passion and talent for music?

My Mom actually was the one who first encouraged me to pursue music.

 

How long have you been practicing your craft?

Many, many years, but got a late start compared to young musicians these days.

 

Favourite song to play?

Daughters by John Mayer has been one of my go to warm up songs for a while.

 

Favourite song to listen to?

Hmmm… something Stevie Wonder.

 

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I like to beat box.

 

On your day off we would find you…

spending time with the fam!

 

Its 4am on a Saturday night, what would you eat?
